SAN MIGUEL PRIMAVERA SOUND REVEALS THE LINE UP FOR ITS TENTH ANNIVERSARY
Pixies, Pavement, Pet Shop Boys, Wilco and Orbital headline an edition that expects to break its audience record. The festival is setting up “PrimaveraPro” a specific area for professionals in the music world.
Barcelona, 17th of February 2010.- The best of the independent music panorama will meet in the San Miguel Primavera Sound 2010, that this year is celebrating its tenth anniversary from the 27th to the 29th of May in the Parc Del Fòrum of Barcelona.
Among the outstanding names confirmed this morning are the British duo The Pet Shop Boys, who continue their successful Pandemonium tour giving their first concert of 2010 and the visit of the Manchester band The Charlatans who will play “Some Friendly”, their most classical record. The comeback of the Seattle band Sunny and the concerts of two classics from the eighties Marc Almond and Gary Numan are other impressive names to add to the already incredible San Miguel Primavera Sound line up.
The veteran feminine post punk band The Slits, the tumultuous Canadian band Broken Social Scene, the British revelation Florence + The Machine, the naïf pop of CocoRosie, the ex lead singer of Aztec Camera Roddy Frame doing an acoustic concert, the pop of The Wave Pictures, José González Junip and Owen Pallet’s band (formally known as Final fantasy) are among the other artists who will draw the crowds at the spring festival.
In the national artists section there will be the farewell concert of the band from Pamplona Half foot Outside, which will end a successful career at the festival. The Catalans Nueva Vulcano (authors of one of the records of 2009, "Los Peces De Colores"), the member of Hello Cuca Lidia Damunt, the meticulous pop of Wild Honey from Madrid, the Galician Emilio José, the folk rock of Bigott from Zaragoza, the surrealist pop of Cohete and the power pop of the Catalans Biscuit complete the line up in this section for 2010.
The electronic and dance part of the line up will enjoy live performances by Moderat (Modeselektor and Apparat together and up in arms), the Swedish The Field with his organic techno and the electronic pop of the beginners Sleigh Bells, as well as sessions by Diplo, one of the maestros of this decade and by the British Boy 8-Bit.
The explosive post punk of Les Savy Fav, the grunge singer songwriter Scout Niblett, Nana Grizol and their Elephant 6 brand pop, the Brooklyn duo Matt & Kim, the revelation of the last San Miguel Primavera Club Beach House, the lo-fi of Best Coast, the energetic shoegaze of Crocodiles, the Factory sound of The Drums, the super punk rock band The Almighty Defenders, the powerful Surfer Blood, the delicate The Books, the reunion of several geniuses of anti folk under the name of The Bundles, the garage pop of The Smith Westerns, the coarse rock of Titus Andronicus, A Sunny Day In Glasgow and the New Yorkers Endless Boogie round off this batch of confirmations.
There will also be the premiere screening in Spain of ODDSAC, a cross between a film and a visual album that the American band Animal Collective has made in collaboration with Danny Perez.
As regards the sale of tickets, the organizers of the festival have been pleasantly surprised by the early show of interest from the public. The sales of full festival tickets have reached a historical high, and it seems that sales records will be broken.
PrimaveraPro
One of the main novelties in the tenth edition of the festival is the setting up of “PrimaveraPro” a specific area for professionals in the music world. The tough criteria in the selection of bands and the diverse styles which come together at the Barcelona event have attracted a lot of attention from professionals in the sector who every year come from abroad and from around the country and this has created the perfect atmosphere to develop professional relations. San Miguel Primavera Sound is at this moment in time considered perfect for developing business, renewing contacts and soaking up the newest tendencies in independent music.
The organisers of the festival aim to take this step in order to channel the synergies which arise between professionals from different areas of the sector like record companies, booking agencies, promoters, distributors and communication agencies, fairs, festivals, specialised press and public and private institutions which promote culture and export of music.
The space will have a stage where new bands will perform in order to facilitate the promotion of new artists to record companies and other entities of the sector. These showcases are aimed at professionals and the general public.
Parallel Programme
The festival goes beyond the limits of the Parc del Fòrum into the city centre with “Primavera a la Ciutat”, an initiative that presents live music in different places.
With the objective of using the green areas of the city, “Primavera al Parc” holds a series of free daytime concerts in Parc Joan Mirò during the weekend of the main event in the Fòrum. Thelematicos, Mcenroe, King Khan &BBq Show, Real Estate, Dum Dum Girls and The Smith Westerns are some of the bands that will play in this edition. “Primavera als Clubs” is a series of showcases which will take place in the three days leading up to the main event in the Fòrum in different venues around the city as well as the traditional closing party on the Sunday, with Black Lips and Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard as the first bands confirmed for this night. Organized with the collaboration of TMB (Barcelona’s public transport company) “Primavera baixa al Metro” will offer free concerts in several underground stations of Barcelona.
And for the fourth consecutive year, Minimúsica will bring live modern music to an audience of children. This initiative of La Colazione wants to contribute to the musical education of children arguing that childhood is not linked to a concrete type of music or to “children’s music”, but that it is a stage in life when exposure to different sounds is essential. Minimúsica will have live performances by the bands Fred i Son, Sedaiós, Internet2, Manos de Topo, Le Pianc, El Gran Amant, Oliva Trencada and El petit de Cal Eril.
